Shortwave diathermy (SWD)

Shortwave diathermy (SWD) is a modality that produces heat by converting electromagnetic energy into thermal energy.

Diathermy, also called “deep heating,” heats deep below the surface of your skin. It targets muscles and joints to provide therapeutic benefits.

SWD, when applied properly, is believed to have the ability to relieve pain and muscle spasm, resolve inflammation, reduce swelling, promote vasodilation, and increase soft tissue extensibility and joint range of movement.
